This tour immerses you in the spiritual and cultural heart of San Pedro La Laguna, where every corner holds ancestral stories and living expressions of the Tz’utujil people. With visits to symbolic monuments, colonial churches, museums, and murals, you’ll experience daily life, local faith, and wisdom firsthand. You’ll taste traditional dishes and walk among art and tradition, all guided by locals who proudly share their cultural heritage.
The tour begins at the Porta del Lago Hotel. We walk to the public beach to board a boat that will cross the majestic Lake Atitlán toward San Pedro La Laguna. Along the way, we will enjoy panoramic views of the volcanoes and mountains that protect the lake basin.
Upon disembarking, our first stop will be this symbolic monument that represents the spiritual and economic connection of the Tz’utujil people to the lake. The oars symbolize the work of the fishermen, the wisdom of the ancestors, and the sacred relationship with water. It’s an ideal spot for photographs and a first connection with the local worldview.
In the heart of the town, we visited the central park and the colonial church of San Pedro Apóstol, a witness to centuries of syncretism between Mayan spirituality and the Catholic faith.
We explore the traditions, customs, and symbols of the people around the lake, with a guided explanation of the costumes, ceremonies, and worldview of the Tz’utujil Mayan people.
We walk along the main street among murals full of history and creativity. We stop to try traditional foods like atol, banana bread, or local sweets, supporting community businesses.
We enjoyed an authentic lunch at a local restaurant, featuring dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and traditional recipes. Groups of five or more can reserve a traditional mini buffet.
After an enriching morning, we returned with new memories, unforgettable landscapes, and a deeper connection with the Tz’utujil people.
